National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth Updates Website
July 2009
WASHINGTON, DC -- Today the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth (NCWD/Youth) released an updated version of its content rich website, http://www.ncwd-youth.info/. Since the original launch of the NCWD/Youth website, it has been the go-to place for information relating to youth with disabilities and the workforce development and transition systems supporting them in their transition to the world of work.
The updated version of the website offers new content areas focusing on what all youth need with an emphasis on youth with disabilities and other vulnerable populations:
Workforce Development
Professional Development
Youth Development and Leadership
Helpful resources including expanded definitions, acronyms, and helpful links for a variety of topical areas
White papers, manuals, guides, and fact sheets on a variety of policy areas
Additionally, the website features a fresher look and a user-friendly interface including:
Easier search capabilities
Publications arranged by categories
Fast access to Innovative Strategies
Updated contact list for High School/High Tech sites
The updated version of the site provides numerous publications free of charge, background papers, InfoBriefs on a variety of topics, and much more.
NCWD/Youth assists state and local workforce development systems to better serve all youth, including youth with disabilities and other vulnerable youth. The NCWD/Youth, created in 2001, is composed of partners with expertise in education, youth development, disability, employment, workforce development, and family issues. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), the NCWD/Youth is housed at the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C. NCWD/Youth offers a range of technical assistance services to state and local workforce investment boards, youth councils, and other workforce development system youth programs.

The following career-related topics will also be covered:· Week 1: Building Confidence: Accomplishments, Personal Pitch and Self-Marketing· Week 2: Developing professional communication skills, interviewing skills, and conversations on the job · Week 3: Written Communication: Resumes, cover letters, and thank you notes· Week 4: Making the most of your internship or work experience through networking, informational interviews, and asking for references & referrals · Week 5: Guest speakers: how they got to where they are today· Week 6: Wrapping-up: processing our experience and next steps moving forward The class will be held once a week for six weeks beginning Wednesday July 8th and ending on Wednesday August 12th. We meet from 5:30 to 7 pm.
The fee for the evening dinner program is $200.Please register for the Wednesday Evening Program By Monday July 6th.

Originally created in 1999, the Distinguished Speakers Series was designed to support Long Island families by providing a forum for Long Island practitioners focusing on current issues affecting young children and families today from specialists in the field. Produced in collaboration with Long Island health and human service professionals, community, and corporate sponsors, the series fills an important continuing education need on Long Island. Attendees earn .2 CEU’s and NYS OCFS licensed child care providers will receive 2 training credits per seminar. See reverse for 2009-10 series presenters and registration information.
